Cookie Policy

2. What Are Cookies?

2.1 Cookies are small pieces of information that may be placed on a computer, phone, tablet or other device when a website is used.

2.2 Similar technologies can also store or access information on a device. These may include local storage, tracking pixels, scripts, tags and comparable technologies.

2.3 In this policy, we use the term “cookies” where convenient to include these similar storage and access technologies.

3. Why We Use Cookies

3.1 We only want to use cookies and similar technologies where they have a clear purpose.

3.2 They may be used to:

  • (a) operate essential website functions;
  • (b) maintain the security of the website;
  • (c) remember your cookie choices;
  • (d) understand how the website is being used where lawful and appropriately configured;
  • (e) remember website display or functionality preferences where relevant; or
  • (f) support optional third-party functions if these are introduced.

4. The Cookies Currently Used on This Website

4.1 The Brightlink Law School website uses a cookie preference tool so that visitors can control optional cookies and similar technologies.

4.2 The preference tool itself may store information on your device that is necessary to remember your privacy choices.

4.3 At the date of this policy, the live cookie preference tool does not identify functional, analytical, advertising or unclassified cookies as being active on the website.

4.4 The website is continuing to develop. The technologies used may therefore change over time.

4.5 The live cookie preference panel on the website provides the most current information about the categories of cookies or storage technologies detected and allows you to change your choices.

4.6 We will not knowingly introduce advertising or other non-exempt tracking technologies without configuring the website to obtain any consent required by law.

5. Necessary Cookies and Technologies

5.1 Some technologies are necessary for the website or a service requested by the visitor to work properly.

5.2 This can include technology used for security, network communications and remembering privacy or cookie preferences.

5.3 Consent is not required where a statutory exception applies to the particular storage or access.

6. Statistical and Functionality Technologies

6.1 Data protection and electronic communications law permits certain technologies to be used without consent for limited statistical purposes where all of the legal conditions are met.

6.2 The exception is narrow. Among other things, the sole purpose must be to collect statistical information about use of the website with a view to improving it, and appropriate information and a simple and free way to object must be provided.

6.3 A limited exception may also apply to technology used solely to adapt the appearance or functionality of a service in accordance with a user’s preferences, subject to the applicable legal conditions and an appropriate means of objecting.

6.4 If Brightlink relies on either of these exceptions, we will configure the relevant technology so that the conditions of the exception are met.

6.5 Where an exception does not apply, we will obtain consent before using the technology.

7. Analytics

7.1 We do not assume that analytics technology is necessary merely because it is useful.

7.2 If website analytics are introduced, Brightlink will determine whether the particular configuration falls within the statistical purposes exception or requires consent.

7.3 Where consent is required, analytics will not be activated for that visitor before valid consent has been obtained.

8. Advertising and Tracking

8.1 We do not currently use the website to deliver personalised advertising to visitors.

8.2 If advertising, remarketing or cross-site tracking technology is introduced in future, it will be subject to the consent and transparency requirements applying at that time.

9. Managing Your Choices

9.1 When the cookie preference tool is displayed, you can:

  • (a) accept optional cookies;
  • (b) reject optional cookies;
  • (c) customise your preferences; and
  • (d) change your preferences later.

9.2 Rejecting optional cookies should not prevent you from accessing the core information on the Brightlink Law School website.

9.3 Most browsers also allow you to delete or block cookies. Browser controls are separate from the preferences recorded through the website.

9.4 Blocking a technology that is genuinely necessary for a particular requested function may affect that function.

10. Third-Party Technologies

10.1 Some website features may be supplied by third parties.

10.2 If using a third-party feature causes that organisation to store information on or access information from your device, we will consider the applicable privacy and cookie requirements before enabling the feature.

10.3 Where necessary, we will give you information about the third party and obtain consent before the technology is activated.
